Unable to Double-Click Files to Open Them - Google Chrome, Drive, Sheets, etc.

If you're attempting to double-click folders or files inside of Google Drive and it just isn't working BUT you are still able to right-click on the file and open it this way; the issue likely lies in the current Operating System (OS) settings.

If you don't have the option to right-click to open the file, the issue is more likely permissions related, so be sure to verify the scenario you're experiencing first to ensure the fix applies to you before making the changes below.

First, identify your current operating system (OS).

Next - Follow along with the instructions below that correspond with your OS.

MacBook Pro, MacOS 
  1.  On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click Accessibility  in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
  2. Click Pointer Control on the right, then do any of the following:
    1. Adjust how fast you must click for your Mac to recognize a double-click: Drag the slider next to “Double-click speed.”
    2. Adjust how quickly the pointer moves when you scroll: Click Mouse Options, then drag the slider next to “Scroll speed.”

Windows 10/11
  1. Go to the Bluetooth & devices
  2. Scroll down to select Mouse.
  3. Click on Additional mouse settings and this will open a new pop-up window
  4. Here you can change the double click speed of your mouse.
  5. You will see a cursor that you can drag and change the double click speed.
